Critical Duration Index: Anticipating Project Delays from Deterministic Schedule Information

چکیده
Classical scheduling techniques are well-known to underestimate the average project duration, yet they remain widely used in practice due their simplicity. In this paper, new Critical Duration Index (CDI) is proposed. This index indirectly allows anticipation for probability of a ending late, as well duration extension compared with deterministic estimate. The accuracy two simple regression expressions that use CDI was tested on representative data sets 4,100 artificial and 108 empirical (real) projects. Results show these outperformed only alternative found literature. Besides allowing enhanced forecasting possibilities, calculating requires basic information available at planning stage. It can thus be easily adopted by managers improve estimates over prior techniques.Practical ApplicationsClassical like Gantt charts or critical path method known duration. However, we have proposed (CDI). later than estimate produced chart method. also an estimation how much longer might take completed, is, delay. real sets. Our results one forecast delay, Hence, it other techniques.

متن کاملStable Deterministic Multithreading through Schedule Memoization
A deterministic multithreading (DMT) system eliminates nondeterminism in thread scheduling, simplifying the development of multithreaded programs. However, existing DMT systems are unstable; they may force a program to (ad)venture into vastly different schedules even for slightly different inputs or execution environments, defeating many benefits of determinism. Moreover, few existing DMT syste...
متن کاملModeling Human Decision Behaviors for Accurate Prediction of Project Schedule Duration
Simulation techniques have been widely applied in many disciplines to predict duration and cost of projects. However, as projects grew in size, they also grew in complexity making effective project planning a challenging task. Despite several attempts to achieve accurate predictions, simulation models in use are still considered to be oversimplified. They often fail to cope with uncertainty due...
متن کاملAnticipating Information Projection: An Experimental Investigation∗
We investigate whether people predict the biases of others with an experiment that matches agents with informed or uninformed principals. While the agents’ beliefs are well-calibrated regarding the average task performance, they also correctly believe that informed principals monitoring their performance project their information and overestimate the likelihood of success for agents. The agents...
متن کاملWatson: Anticipating and Contextualizing Information Needs
In this paper, we introduce a class of systems called Information Management Assistants (IMAs). IMAs automatically discover related material on behalf of the user by serving as an intermediary between the user and information retrieval systems. IMAs observe users interact with everyday applications and then anticipate their information needs using a model of the task at hand. IMAs then automati...
